About once a decade, a real estate project comes along that truly transforms the urban landscape. The Kikar Hamedina Towers project is undeniably one of those.
This initiative, led by Electra and Ashtrom—two of Israel’s largest and most prominent construction companies—is already reshaping the skyline of Tel Aviv and changing the reality at one of Israel’s most iconic city squares.
Three 40-Story Luxury Towers
The story of Kikar Hamedina goes back even before the founding of the state, when the northern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv (now referred to as the “Old North”) began expanding eastward along the Yarkon River.
The square itself took shape during the 1960s and 1970s, originally planned to include an additional inner ring of buildings.
In the late 1970s, then-Mayor of Tel Aviv Shlomo Lahat (nicknamed “Chich”) attempted to rezone the square, expropriate the land, and turn it into public space.
The landowners petitioned the High Court of Justice, which ruled in their favor. Eventually, a new construction master plan for the square was approved, and in 2019, after decades of delays and the need to address unique infrastructure challenges (including relocating a Ministry of Defense antenna that had restricted development), the project officially broke ground.
The work began on what was the last significant open space in historical Tel Aviv, and today, the towers are nearing completion and already rising on the skyline.
A Historic Project Deserves Historic Documentation
As mentioned, the impressive Kikar Hamedina Towers project is spearheaded by Electra (via its construction arm, Electra Building) in collaboration with Ashtrom, one of Israel’s most established construction firms.
The companies formed a dedicated partnership for this project, not only redefining one of the country’s most iconic spaces in terms of architecture and public space, but also setting a high standard in terms of execution and design.
Even before construction hit full speed, it was clear that a project of this magnitude deserved thorough documentation, starting from the early stages.
The leadership teams at Electra and Ashtrom understood that a historic project of this scale called for equally historic documentation.
Four Years in Four Minutes
That’s when we at TimelapseIT were brought in. At the companies’ request, we equipped the site with time-lapse cameras so that, at the end (and throughout), a final video could be created, accelerating the full process into a fast-paced visual.
The result is one of the most striking time-lapse videos ever produced in Israel, fitting for one of the most significant projects built in the country in recent years.
In the final video, you can see how three elegant 40-story luxury towers rise from the familiar, empty square of Kikar Hamedina—in just four minutes.
A visual summary of an entire process that took more than four years.
